Terms of Use
- Soko List lets you post items for sale and contact sellers. We are not part of any sale.
- You must be 18 or older, tell the truth in your listings, and only sell things you are allowed to sell.
- We don’t handle payments. Meet in a public place and check the item before you pay.
- We can remove listings and suspend accounts that break these rules.
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and At Point (“we”, “us”), the operator of Soko List. By creating an account or using the app or website, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Soko List.
2. What Soko List is
Soko List is a classifieds service. It lets people in Kenya post items for sale, search listings and contact each other. We only provide the space to connect buyers and sellers:
- we are not the buyer or seller of any item;
- we don’t check, inspect or guarantee items, listings or users;
- we don’t take part in, process or hold any payment.
Any deal is made directly between the buyer and the seller, and they are responsible for it.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- Give accurate information, and keep your sign-in details and email account secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- One person, one account. Don’t create accounts for other people or to get around a suspension.
- Tell us straight away if you think someone else is using your account.
4. Listing rules
When you post a listing, you confirm that:
- you own the item or are allowed to sell it, and it is really available;
- the title, description, price, photos and town are true and describe the actual item;
- the photos are yours or you have permission to use them.
You must not list:
- anything illegal to sell or own in Kenya, including stolen goods;
- drugs, weapons, ammunition or explosives;
- counterfeit or fake branded goods;
- wild animals or products made from protected species;
- prescription medicines, or alcohol and tobacco to anyone under 18;
- adult sexual content or services;
- personal data, accounts, SIM cards registered to someone else, or ID documents;
- “get rich quick” offers, pyramid schemes, loans requiring upfront fees, or fake job offers.
Don’t post the same item many times, and don’t put misleading prices or keywords in listings.
5. How to behave
- Be respectful in messages. No harassment, threats, hate speech or spam.
- Don’t use Soko List to scam, mislead or defraud anyone.
- Never ask anyone for their M-Pesa PIN, one-time passwords, or ID numbers.
- Don’t try to break, overload or get around the security of the service, or collect other users’ data.
6. Staying safe
Most people on Soko List are honest, but scams happen on every marketplace. We strongly recommend that you:
- meet in a busy public place, in daylight if possible;
- check the item works before you pay;
- never send money, including M-Pesa, before you have seen the item;
- be careful with deals that seem too good to be true.
If something looks wrong, use Report this listing in the app. If a crime has happened, report it to the police.
7. Your content
You keep ownership of the listings, photos and messages you post. You give us permission to store, display and share them within Soko List so the service can work, for example to show your listing to buyers. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account.
8. Moderation
We review reports from users. We may remove any listing, or suspend or close any account, that breaks these terms or that we reasonably believe puts other people at risk. Where we can, we will tell you why. If you think we made a mistake, email us.
9. Our responsibility
We work to keep Soko List running and safe, but we provide it “as is”. We can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors.
Because we are not part of any sale, we are not responsible for the items listed, what users say or do, or any loss from a deal between users. As far as Kenyan law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, such as lost profit or lost opportunity, arising from your use of Soko List. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under Kenyan consumer protection law.
10. Ending your use
You can stop using Soko List and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms.
11. Changes
We may update these terms as Soko List grows. We will change the date at the top of this page, and tell you in the app if a change is important. If you keep using Soko List after a change, you accept the new terms.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and any dispute will be handled by the courts of Kenya.
